I am restoring an HX Sandman Panelvan, the chassis and tag numbers match but are there any other identifying details to look out for. My main question is how do I tell if the body, or chassis or chassis numbers have been changed? Thanks

You'd need to get someone that knows what they are doing to check it out, and then they'd only be able to tell you that they DON'T match, no-one will be able to tell you for certain that it all belonged together originally. Also depends upon what plant it was assembled in, you'd need someone with access to records of many cars to tell you if the ID plates all match each other (or more correctly that they don't match).
I have a 78 HZ Panelvan which I am about 70% certain it is a Sandman.....It once apon a time had a gts dash, but the previous owner sold it, for reasons unbeknown to me....but my main problem is that the ID tag that is meant to be on the passengers side firewall is not there. I am about 90% sure it was there when I brought her, but she had been in storage at my ex missus uncles place for a while........
On the other ID tag on the drivers side firewall it has a seating capacity of 2 and when I brought her she had a 253 and Aussie 4 speed sitting in her. (Since changed to a 308 and T400.)
I was told by the previous owner she was original, which believed due to the 253/4 speed combo, full roof head lining, and I vaguely remember the passengers compliance plate reading L32/M21.......
She doesnt have a tyre placard on the inside of the glove box, but I am assuming this would have gone with the dash.
Any info as to seeing if I can track down her true identity would be appreciated.
Cheers, Muzz.
PM me the VIN off the skinny plate, and off the ADR plate the chassis number, seating capacity and GVW.
Without the BODY plate you are pretty much screwed though as it'll never be worth more than a replica Sandman ie no-one will pay Sandman price for it with missing tags. If you are keen on restoring it my advice would be to sell it and buy a complete Sandman to restore. Unless you can find original paint on it there is no way (currently) to know what the TRIM line is on the BODY plate either. Working out the driveline is relatively easy but the diff ratio would be an educated guess.
