That engine no. would have come from an Aug 72 non Statesman HQ. The date stamp if I have read it correctly is May 15 71 :Chin:

Just curious, I know statos had '11' in front of the QT but how can you tell it would be from an Aug 72 HQ, is it by the sequence number? Being a 71 build I wouldn't have thought they would have kept that many engines in stock to carry over that far.

I think Sndmn is reffering to Mr Jones post where he states that this May 71 engine came from an Aug 72 car.
I'm assuming that Mr Jones has made a typo and it should be an Aug 71 car?

In my list of HQ-Z's I also record engine no. if possible and QT205010 is from cars built in Aug of 72 either the engine no has been re-stamped or has been misquoted. I would expect a 5/71 engine to be in the QT1-2k range

Probably just an old block that had troubles during machining and got used later. This is an example of why you don't look at casting numbers on engines. Engine number is the important thing.
