Wanted, HQ Sandman steering box.

I'm looking for a HQ Sandman steering box. These are 3.3 turns from lock to lock, not 3.9 like std HQ.

Steering box is the same for all HQ AFAIK.

Didn't all hq's have the same steering arms as the shorter power steering ones. That would give less turns lock to lock.

There are 2 different boxs. The original one in my ute was 3.3turns. I changed it out when it had a tight spot, but didn't realise at the time that the most common ones are 3.9 turns. Unfortunately, by the time I'd done some checking around, mine had long gone to the dump.

I thought there were different ratios I was told the number on top of the box is the ratio but i have one with 10,another with 12 and one with nothing ??? not sure if they are all HQ though mite be from later models. the one with 10 came out of my HQ monaro and it had very heavy steering with 7 inch wheels and short steering arms

For HQ there are 2 x different boxes: 16.7:1 and 20:1. But only GTS coupes got 16.7:1 as standard. You could option it on others but it isn't standard.

Then 16.7-1 must be the one I had, as the steering was heavy and more direct when I had that box in it.
When you say GTS coupes, is that HQ only, or any 2 door

HQ GTS coupe only, but from memory HJ -HZ GTS sedan also.

Would there be any markings on the box itself Byron? I'll check the Hz Gts next farm trip.

I don't know if there are, logic says there should be. I've never taken any interest in them as i've always fitted power steering to every HQ-WB I get!
