Went and had a look at some hoists at 'super hoist plus ' in Moss vale, and they do a 3 tonne 2 poster called a Torin, $1850. http://www.ebay.com/itm/270836097497...ht_1410wt_1165
A couple of local mechanics are using them and are quite happy with them, and despite bein Chinese the build quality seems pretty decent too. so I guess I'm might hafta splash out for Christmas. Will be just fine for a home butcher like me.....

I would consider spending the little bit more and getting the clear floor model:

They are both well priced. I've been looking at a few ads in just cars lately there are heaps out there it seems.
For an enthusiast like me either one of these will do I'm sure. Wondering Byron what's the different/benefit of the clear floor model? Its nearly 300mm wider and 900 higher yet still only lifts too 1800mm!
Do they offer an install service and after sales/ parts as well?

There is no 3-4 inch ramp (covering the chains) between the two posts on the ground.
    Nunc est bibendum...

Yeah I get that! This one is only 30 mm high so was just asking why spend more $$ on a higher wider unit!?? what are you really gaining?

I find it a pain in the butt, plus sometimes when you want to park a car under the one on the hoist they can get really tight and the lifting of the car as it goes over the hump can be tricky. When I had my '57 Chev up on the hoist I had trouble backing the Overlander tonner under it. I had to remove the rear wheels off the Chev as the Overlander fitted but when it backed over the hump the roof hit the tyres of the Chev.

It is also harder to push a car over the hump especially if it is a body on a rotisserie, and you want to wheel it into the hoist to lift it to then put it on a chassis (which is also hard to push over the hump).
Other stuff like trolley jacks, transmission hoists, tool box/trolleys etc are hard to wheel over it. Once you use one for a while you'll see what I mean.
