    Electronic distributor

I am after an electronic distributor for our 253 van.

No idea what sort I need.

The mechanic suggested just getting a cheapy and then replacing the coil with a quality bosch one.

Can anyone offer advise on what I should buy and whether it is worthwhile?

dont buy an aftermarket cheapy as they are crap...buy a bosch unit from a wb or vc vh vk vl commodore...generally good ones are around $195 from reputable dealers or cheaper on ebay and take a chance..

Get a dissy off a WB, Change the rotor button to an XD 351 style, and the original cap will fit. :D

I've just done that. As the previous guys have posted, get a dissy from a V8 Blue or Black motor, also buy a brand new V8 XD/XE Falcon rotor.
Remove the dissy cap which will be the large one and remove the rotor, add new XD/XE rotor and you can place a standard points cap on it.

It has been recommended to use a Xd/XE coil, but also have heard I can use a 12v oil filled coil (this I am yet to test).

I think i used an XR700 on my GQ Patrol and never missed a beat.
Only took about an hour to fit.
Other then that, as i said previously, Use a WB dissy. VERY easy.

Use a Bosch coil. The other new no name ones work really well for 30 or so km's and then loose all their oil.
