Number Plates

Does anyone actually pay stupidly rediculous prices for number plates I just saw SANM4N for $10000 when I see these it ads it makes me want to ring them and tell them they are dickheads. Looking through the unique cars magazine the other day there was heaps of them one set that read ELVI5 they wanted $400,000 for and no I didn't put too many 00's in.

Yes I too think number plates are over rated..and you have to pay money each year on top of Rego in NSW....If bought after 2004. we tried to buy a Windsor Blue HZ Sandman from Wallsend earlier this year, and he had sndman plates which he felt added $5000 to the sale, I offered him $20000 for the Van he wanted $30000 but would take, 25000..anyways I said keep the plates (we only wanted the van and had our original personal plates for it) and he didn't want to...he then sold the van to a VIC person who could't have the plates anyways finding out this after going to RTA to change over...I rang to check if it was sold, (hense knowing all this info)...the Van was in good condition running gear great, but would need a new paint job to get it up to our standard, and interior really ordiniary....so really wasn't worth more than $20000 at most....now I have noticed these Sndman plates have been on Ebay 3 times, each time nobody has met his reserve..... As for Elvis plates, well being from Parkes I do realize there are some huge mad elvis fans out there but surely they wouldn't part with $4000000for number plates....:o

The van you are talking about i believe went for $17,000.
They are worth $400 a year to display as well.

When I rang him is desperation, to see if I could buy it, after all the vans we were going to look at sold before we left town, after they told us they would hold them I might add.....he said he sold it to a lady from Melbourne and they couldn't have the plates when they went to the RTA and he was over it all and took the plates off and let it go for $23000. Yes I forgot $400 it is $90 for personal (RB3128) but free in VIC...Anyway every cloud has a silver lining as found a perfect one for restoration in Chelsea, was in Unique cars Mar 10-april 6 on page 216, and it was supposed to be Yellow which was a plus. I asked the owner of the Windsor blue van in the Euchuca Holden museum if he would sell it which he would, but we can do this one up for the same price, and have it yellow, but the Euchuca one is brilliant with genuine 68000 kms so if I win lotto in the mean time I will have it too.....All this searching is to buy back the van my husband had to sell for family purposes..he was 50 in Dec, so thought it would be better option than a Harley...

You'd have to be a VERY good Elvis impersonator to afford the "ELVI5" 400k plates!

On page 267 Unique Cars Feb 10 - Mar 9, a set of "ELVIS" (with an `s') from NSW was asking only 25k...

I have the stock first issued plates for my HZ GTS and they are exactly what will go on it. I think personalized number plates are a joke. :D
