    So Thoughts on a LX8 - Adventura

Im looking at one of these puppys to replace the HZ, like the ook of them over the stock wagon, bit overlanderish, also wont a 5.7ltr or the 6ltr, I know they will be thirsty but OZ has a 5.7ltr on GAS and its goes better If I get one and put gas on it Im not worried,

I would really love a modern Sportswagon but cant gas, it well can but not too many around and its a small donought tank

Other options are a VE Sedan but have one of them and like my goon, if I and when I sell it I would like something a lil rarer on street with wow factor

A LX8 with nice old school note should be good and can go off road a lil

    Thanks

I had a Cross8 which is basically the same thing except in a Crewman. As a standard car it was thirsty and gutless, but when I got a 3.5" exhaust and high flow cats then a tune by Oztrack it made it heaps better in power and economy and it sounded good too. Adventra is a bit lighter than a Cross8 too. A bloke here at work bought one recently and got exhaust and tune done but he also got a small cam put it and it hammers, sounds like cr@p though as it is a twin system, these sound better with a single. He fitted bigger rotors and Corvette calipers to it as well, but due to the rotor shape on these you have to fit 20" rims and it looks ridiculous. I fitted CV8 series II/III 18x8" rims to mine with 245/45/18 tyres and it was really good. I have the before and after dyno sheet here somewhere. Mine was a 5/2005 VZ which i'd recommend you get over a VY or VZ/VY, much of it is improved, a lot of it not immediately obvious. The VZ wasn't released in Adventra and Cross8 until 4/2005. Prior to that it was a hybrid VY/VZ after VZ was released late 2004. If you get a Cross8 there were some 6.0L ones built in 2006 but as far as I know V8 Adventra finished up in 2005 so there are no 6.0L 2006 examples.

I had a 2004 LX8 Adventra wagon. It was probably one of the best cars I have had. Mine was just stock, unfortunately it got rear ended, so after it was repaired I sold it as it was due for replacement anyway. Very heavy and strong car, but also pretty heavy on juice. Parts are always dearer as lots of parts are cross 8 specific, even things like brake pads. I would go the VZ, I think the interior is a bit nicer, very similar to VZ Monaro and the front and bonnet is a bit newer looking.

However after buying a series two VE, it is so much nicer to drive than the Adventra. If you can try for a low k one, they pop up quite a bit as families are now trading them. I also like the Ochre trim some of the Adventras have.

By the way, if you want something a little rarer, look at the HSV Avalanche. I dont like the body kit, but others probably do.

    Cheers Geoff

VZ got a 4L65E box which is better than 4L60E which VY may have had (can't remember). Standard box is as Jennie describes but after the Oztrack tune they are as good as any 4spd auto you'll ever drive. Box is fully ECU controlled and a good tune fixes them. Mine was a slug before the tune and exhaust and shifted awfully. I only got mine tuned for E10 or 95 and it picked up about 40kW, went best on E10 or 98 though. If tuned for 98 it'd pick up another 10kW, E85 you'd probably get another 15-20kW again. On E10 it'd do around 14L/100kM around town, highway about 10L/100kM.

as has been mentioned - they drink like fish
problem with the lpg is that they only take a small tank

they are also very nose heavy

They are no worse on fuel than any 308 HQ-HZ i've ever owned. Probably the equivalent in consumption to a 253. Once you get one tuned and get lean cruise turned back on they are great at highway speeds.

I've found mine very comfortable, the cx8 I have is berlina spec. Since I have a blue healer the concept of leather interior in the lx8 didn't appeal to me nor does the dog in the back need a separate climate zone.
Mine does have the corrosion issue on the roof racks I saw ski mentioned in the shoutbox. Appart from that the dark five green with dark tint looks great.

For towing anything theyre great, you can see a picture of it towing blockers hj in the spotto thread. Hardly noticed the load of that or the boat.

For me, the negatives are the boat like turning circle and the fishlike drinking, going from the adventra to the hz with 202 I've saving about 5l/100 in fuel. That's with nanna driving the adventra and spirited driving in the van.

I'm selling mine as I'm consolidating and putting money on the mortgage. So no more boat and no more adventra.

Love my Avalanche 77! ill be up your way next week if you want to take it for a spin.
As everyone here says though she is a Machine. The guy i got it from had a mafless tune done on a dyno and it runs around 300 KW. Box was tuned aswell and in power mode it hammers!!
Also has an exhaust system with some sweet extractors . Sounds awesome!!
Heavy on tyres also and the crosstrack makes the steering a little heavier than normal.
Small fuel tank is annoying also. Gas conversion is about 4 k as they need to direct inject them i think.
    Hope this helps man!!
