I have an HZ ute bodyshell that has had all it's rust "repaired" the quarter panel above the sills has been fully welded with all the rust cut out but is so wrinkly they have covered the whole area with bog. I ground it back to bare metal but I think it will just get re-bogged and painted. The fuel filler hole has been plated over and the rear wall of the cab has been modified. Its all good though as I plan to do the same as Alien and make it into a Sandman Trailer

Completed the weld repair this afternoon took a couple of hours but was to hot both in the weld and the shed to finish.Happy that I adjusted the repair, ,don't like doings things twice but worth the effort I think

That a boy, It's now some thing you will always look at and remember the day you DID IT instead of the week you DIDN'T.

Well just spent the last couple of days sanding back both my doors and completing rust repairs to keep finding more small rust holes along the bottom of the outer skin and some dents on the passenger door that are not worth attempting removal for access reasons. Both have side intrusion bars so figure that these are NOT HJ doors.Looking for some replacement doors as these will not be going back on the car,if anyone has a pair they can vouch for please let me know.

Hi Norwester, good project and very thorough work so far. These sound like WB doors with the impact intrusion bars (and understanding you are restoring a genuine Sandman), is it a very bad thing to have these doors on the HJ if they came from a later model?

Intrusion bar doors are sedan, wagon or Statesman doors from approx 1976. Utes, vans and tonners never had them, not even WB.

Thanks for that info HK1837....I didn't know that, just thought they were HZ to WB. Good to know seeing as though I'm on the hunt

There was no need for intrusion bars as they had a good pillar next to you. Coupes had them too from the same time as the others. I believe GMH got in early with them too in front of ADR requirements.

Roger that HK1837, good info. I thought they were from HZ-WB but that makes sense as i have WB Caprice doors on my van.

Is there any such thing as an outer door skin available these days or are they handmade by a skilled tradie?
