I view it this way, what would you pay for a new vehicle today? Most restorations would fall short of this figure but if done right you have a near new car in many ways so the value would be much the same, except you have the pleasure, pain whatever through the process. The upside as well is that if you buy wisely and rebuild a vehicle worth doing, then you may have a nicely appreciating asset for the future or at least something that will give you some of your money back.

i think the spray painters can cause big cost blow outs if your not careful, be on the front foot with them, rub it back yourself, pull it apart yourself, don't pay till its done, and start with good panels in the first instance and give them a time limit of 4-6 weeks max otherwise they will use and abuse you.

if you don't like the progress, turn up with a car trailer and take it away, don't persist with loser panelbeaters. ....

i used this method to paint my van in avatar for $2400 10 + years ago.

I started to keep a track of my expenditures and my Hubbie (he is wise sometimes??), just said it plainly to me that, we work hard, I've waited so long and it's something I've also wanted. So why stress over every nut and bolts price. Do what you can afford and enjoy it. 'Cause you only get one life and you can't take your money with you and we don't plan on leaving any behind for any other bastard!!
So I'll probably overspend, but the enjoyment I'll get out of it will more than compensate (I hope!!).

I started keeping tabs on what mine was costing me....then it got so scary I just guessed it from then on. I can adjust my guesses to suit what mood Mrs GTS is in.
