    Popping/backfiring and Run on

    Hi guys,

thought id share a recent carbie experience. goes a bit like this

bought sandman fitted with 650 double pumper, mechanical secondary
the thing ran OK but would flood up at times and hesitate when you stabbed the pedal. started fine, no run-on, no backfiring etc
as carbie was flooding i was advised to piss it off as it was too big for the motor aside from the fact it was knackered
bought a new holley 600 vacc secondary. your meant to be able to drop them on and away you go (within reason of course)
Dropped on the new carbie and it ran WAY worse than the knackered 650 DP. WTF!!!
Suffice to say i was quite annoyed. I thought the timing was fine given it ran ok with prev carbie and its elec ignition and the motor was re-built 40,000 ago.
I started to do some homework and got all worked up thinking than the lobes on the cam/s may have been sheered off causing the poppin/backfiring (exhaust and carbie burbs!) etc etc pretty much assumed the worst :(

Turns out the timing was out and the new carby just needed setting up.

The morale of my story - dont ignore the obvious!

Hi Vombil, Can you tell me what an M15 stands for, eg HZ L32 M15 Windowless Kinga. Is it a 3 speed manual?

yeah 3-speed. HK reckons only ever came on the column but ive never ever heard of a V8 with a manual column shift. hed know tho! previous owner said it was a floor shifter... its now trimatic. CRAZINESS!

i used to have a 1 old man owner HX kinga van in papaya. great colour. love it!

3 speeds were only ever column shift, V8 or 6 cylinder. lots probably were converted to those impala floor shifters though.
