HQ Quadrajet

Hi,

Pulling the HQ down today I took the numbers off the 4-barrel on the 308. It still has the mechanical linkages.

3443

I think this is a HQ carby. Saying that I have been told the later ones off the dunnydoors are signifcantly better. How much is the question?

In this carby's case 3443 means the 343th day of 1973.
So a real late 73 built carby
7043283 I have listed as a 308 Manual HQ late build LH early build carby

Thanks Paul. The car is 5/74 so I guess it took a while to paddle over on the boat. :-)

I assume you can get kits to rebuild those? The back butterflys arnt working too well. No squrties on the startup either.

As far as I know kits are still available and from memory it is the RT-601 carby kit that suits the early carbys.

As Paul says it suits later HQ, early LH plus early HJ manual 308.

The blue motor carbs are better for 2 x reasons but no compelling reason to change yours:

1. Primary metering rods are adjustable without pulling the car apart.
2. If you change valley cover to Edelbrock or KC the choke mech is on the carby; early carbs have it on the manifold (divorced choke).
