Walking down the street #2 son points out a Jag, then a Lotus and Porsche. I start explaining the difference between sports and luxury cars.
He asks if a Sandman is a sports car, because it has sports accessories. This got me thinking.
Now what's the difference between a Sports car a Luxury Car and a Real car?
Sports through and through mate. Before joining this site, I always thought of 'the sandman' as a muscle car, and I still do to a degree, of course a muscle car that lacks quite a bit of performance!
Hmm,
Bucket seats, sports dash, floor shift, all in the 70's was pretty sporty. In 2011 its all standard fare.
They were sporty, not sports car though. A 260z was a sports car of the day. An Astin Martin is a real sports car. A Sandman was a commercial vehicle with sporty options. The closest Holden came to true sports car was the GTR-X and they didnt build it. A Monaro was based on a family sedan with two doors removed so no sports car in my book either, muscle car maybe.
A sports car would really only have two doors and a hatchback in my reckoning.
HQ production option availability sheets (from HQ features manual) refer to the Sandman as:
XX7. Special Vehicle Package - Sports Option.
That's what the back section is for! SPORTS!!
Definetly not a muscle car. I would go with sports commercial.
Cheers Dave
