Long term HJ ute rebuild project.

Thought I'd move this to here for your feedback and suggestions please...

Body on the home-made rotisserie ( Special thanks to the Bundy Bear )

    Rare spares sills fitted.

Ute is casino blue with dove grey trim. 5/75, seating 2, has dash, guards and no holes filled in doors/tray/guards. Console mounts, door light switches and wiring. GVM 2200. Kingswood based, I think it was Vic built but don't have the plates in front of me.
    253 / M20 ( but has a M21 at the moment ) / .308 diff.
Purchased from a guy who told me it had no rust.
Never trust a guy that tells you it has no rust when he is about 5000kms away and you are about to transfer money into his account.

    Before.

    After.

    Before.

    After.

Stone chip / sound proof applied.

Firewall painted and body back on.
This has taken me since the start of the year.
All rubbers / bushes / tie rods / tie rod ends / ball joints / body mounts etc replaced.
    Chassis smoothed and painted.
In two minds whether to go to green?

Front on to check gaps and alignment of new sills.

Radiator support and inner guards painted black and front assembled for sanding / gapping / panel work.

Scored 2 x 6inch and 1 x 7 inch gts wheels today so have had a good day.

Why would you go green? That blue is an awesome colour and you'd be almost guaranteed to never park next to a similar looking one.

I have decided to agree and have spent so much on paint that I can't change my mind now.

Will be a nice ute. HJ's look good in that colour. I'd get rid of that Taiwanese nose though and put the original HJ 2 x light front back on. Can you send me that tag data for the database? I doubt I have a Casino Blue Kingswood XX7 with Gry trim recorded. If I do there won't be many.

I have J478154 as 1904-14V, but I don't have a chassis number for it. PSN could be wrong Leroy if you have it recorded differently.

    I have 2 x other Casino blue HJ XX7's. 1 x 1906-19V and a 1904-60V. The 19V trim is a van, and the 60V is a Kingswood ute.

Just double checked and I have the vin as 478154 and the PSN and the body as 476154, looks like another I have mashed the fat fingers on. I have the chassis as BHJ06503M

It was on carsales.com, I'll send the tag pics to you.

The other 1904 is a HJ GTS w/14V trim

Thanks everyone for the positive feedback. I'm still away for about another week but will send numbers when I get back.
Thanks Vombil, bought the welder for this job and it's been a steep learning curve. Thanks to all those that have posted tips on this site.
Jeeze this is starting to sound like an oscars acceptance speech.

I've been really lucky to find various bits in station dumps around where I work, found a really good driver's side door a couple of weeks ago which was pretty much the last bit I needed for the body and then the free wheels this week.
I reckon there is a late model ( without the fluted guards ) sandman ute in one dump. The front is burned and the back is smashed but it looks like a metalic red colour and has centre console mounts and no holes for the side strips. shame.

And yes it was on carsales in Victoria.

Showing my lack of knowledge here but what's a "Taiwanese nose"?
