HQ Panel Van Sandman or Not??

    Hi All,

New to the site just wondering if you can help me identify if my van is a sandman:

    Model: 80270QR
    Body: 806186-S
    Trim: 1875-30B
    Paint: 568-15825

    Vin: 8M70RDH806186Q

    Hq Panel Van 3/74
    DHQ 11637S

    GVW: 4850
    Seating Cap: 2

It also has GTS guards and GTS dash, any information would be great. Thanks

That would be 4850 lbs for HQ not kg - therefore 2199kg

    HQ sandman or not

The weight looks right to me, They were listed in pounds on hq as opposed to kg later, so that's why the different figure. The rest of the details look pretty promising. Don't suppose you got any original paperwork with it?

V8 Belmont van in Autumn Gold with Black trim and B on the end of the trim code. Pretty good possibility. What are the engine/gearbox codes? Build date is in the right spot too.

Does weight make a difference in HQ? I thought the derated wieght due to radial tyres only came in later on. In other words all HQ's have the same weight whether Sandman or not.

No real way to tell for sure. I could most likely pick it by inspection of the body, but tags are useless on most HQ Sandmans. I did have it previously recorded as a Sandman though

It won't have engine or diff codes, only M20 for the box. Engine and box will be standard for the model (253 and 3.08 Salisbury)

Its a pity the paint isn't original as should be autumn gold by the id tag....it looks such old paint it must have had a respray early in its life...the guards are GTS can you see if they have been cut in, and is there any original paint on the inner guards, it looks like a Sandman to us, but there would be others here who would know HQ better than us..

Mate does it have the rear mount for the console welded on the floor? Still got the dash in it...

That would be a very rare surviver one. I dont thnik you could get a 253 with an M20 any other way.

Interesting that it has a six in it too...

ps that would of been one of the last ones with the vents behind the doors.... at 3/74.
