    Fun on the track

Myself and 10 other blokes from work went go-karting today. The karts were 2 stroke racing karts with Yamaha engines. Great fun. 10 laps practice, 12 laps qualifying and a 15 lap race. Track is about a kM long and the 15 lap final took the winner 15m41s. I had a few spins into the kitty litter in qualifying and practice and started 9th on the grid for the final. I had a great 15 lap race and no incidents and was really carving it up at the end, crossed the line 4th on the track but they elevated one of the guys to second as his kart broke and they gave him a new one, so I was 5th overall and only one of 4 to complete 15 laps (winner was about 250m behind me when he got the checquered flag). I actually had the 4th slowest, best lap time in the 15 lap race but was consistent and no spins so crossed the line 4th. Very cool day. I'd recommend it to anyone. All you need is a group of 10 and a sunny, cool day. $185 per person. Took about 2 hours all up. 2min off the F3 Freeway, probably 50 minutes up the F3 from Hornsby, Sydney. And Geez, I am so sore at the moment! By the end of 15 laps your hands and arms are stuffed. Totally different experience to the 4-stroke karts.

So next time there is a mysandman get together in Hunter area, I suggest a 2 stroke go-kart day! Has to be Mon-Fri though.

Sounds like fun. I love outdoor Karts. There's a nice big track up near Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast, not far from Australia Zoo. The karts aren't very fast but if you're with a group of mates or the kids and having a good race then it doesn't matter much. They run under lights till about 10pm too.

There is a couple of those sort of tracks here too with slower 4 stroke karts. This is a proper kart race track with racing karts. Very different experience to what I have done before on 4 stroke karts. These things are damn hard to drive, but I was really getting the hang of apexing corners and driving smoothly rather than sliding. Great fun!

No that is a little kiddies play track! This one is just off the F3. Take the Cardiff exit (first one to Newcastle not the Wallsend exit), turn right towards Newcastle. Go about 750m and you can see the track on your left. Turn left at the roundabout and straight left into the track. Booking is done via the below link (Broadmeadow track):

If you go through to the Cameron Park track you can see more about it. On the picture the corner I struggled with the most was the big sweeper at the end of the main straight in the top right of the picture. Double apex left hander straight after a right hander. You drive anti-clockwise.

Many moons ago when I was an apprentice and would go to Adelaide for trade school, I would catch up with half a dozen chef mates and do the same thing. Crappy lawn mower engines though but still plenty of fun. Someone would always end up with a large bruise usually the from going into the first corner 5 abreast Your right about your arms being stuffed, not something you notice going around but as soon as you stop dammmn
