Blocker do some research into the old Commodore cup engines. I just read they made around 300hp using red motor heads. 300 hp from a 253 is not too bad at all.
Here is a link with some info.

Depending on how your memory is back in the early 90s there was an article done in street machine where they built and gave away a 400hp 253

Chris Hillman from Radical Innovations (Yennora NSW) done it
Chris has retired and moved to central coast last i saw him

Yeah remember they were going to do it then I went overseas and never saw the actual article.
350-400hp from a 253. When you compare the 253 to a 250 Ford 6 instead of a 308 (which was the motor they were up against) you really have to say they were a greta motor. I dont know if you can get 350 hp from a 250 6 but I suppose anything is possible.

A 4.1L Ford inline 6 probably has at least as much potential as a carbied 253. Especially the alloy headed crossflow engines.

253's are a great little engine. Making them go harder doesn't take all that much. Inlet manifold and carby aside though there is no secret of the easiest and cheapest way to make them go harder at rebuild time. Only involves 2 x parts: Block and crankshaft! So just replace the 253 block with a 308 block. And use 308 crank or a VR-VT 350 crank. Everything else costs the same as 253 replacement parts: pistons, cam, machining costs etc.

Nice idea but in my case the block numbers match the chassis and plates, so my rebuild is more for nostalgic reasons rather than performance.

just get one of those ACL rebuild kit and get the heads serviced then.

slap a baby cam and a 308 manifold with rebuild carb and she'll be a cracker
