HZ Steering Column/Steering Wheel Removal

Hi guys,

Doing up my 78 HZ Sandman, trying to replace the steering wheel but having some troubles...just wondering if anyone can help me understand how to install the new boss kit, I've removed the steering wheel but I don't know how to get the old bit off (the round thing with 6 small screws and 2 larger holes in the middle) sorry I don't even know what it's called lol this round bit has number 24 on it as does the new boss kit so I'm assuming the new one is the right fit...any help would be greatly appreciated, long live the Sandman!!

Sarah, to remove an old boss kit you will need a steering wheel puller, you can get one of these from your local speed shop.

Welcome to the forums.

a steering wheel puller is a must as steering columns are getting harder to find good examples of, so if yours is nice and not worn then look after it, Ozbox has a thread that explains this a little more here: http://www.mysandman.com.au/forums/showthread.php?t=561

i had my column rebuilt after a trainee at the spray shop heaved the steering wheel to move the car around the workshop but a combination of the car not running and my van having power steering meant that he snapped the column casing and cost me a few pennies i didnt need to spend.
