I had never seen the footwell lights till I saw Rod and Jennies van! I have wb stato ones in my WB, but thought the earlier ones just had the roof light. Youngsters hey!

I guess its back to OZBox to clarify.. haha

I don't remember floor lights in Dad's new HZ Kingy when I was a kid... I thought they were bling in Prem's and Statos.

Was speaking to a guy on weekend who reckons that many Brisbane built Sandmans didn’t have the foot well lights but he was adamant that they were fitted on Sandmans built at the other plants. My Brisbane built XX7 HX Sandman ute doesn’t have them and neither does my Adelaide built HZ Sandman ute. I guess they’re like many other tell-tale signs: easily removed and easily installed so they’re really not definitive either way…thoughts anyone?

They are definitely part of the Sandman package in HX and HZ. If they aren't there they have either been removed or it is not a Sandman. This is well documented in many pieces of GMH literature.

Agree with that. It was the one thing that I knew makes a sandman in HX/HZ. They can be added but I think you would be able to spot that.

Hard to tell in many cases with numerous owners and changes over 35 - 40 years. My Adelaide built HJ sandman van I sold a few years ago didn't have courtesy light switch nor any wiring evident for it. My HZ Brissy built has switches and footwell light on drivers side, but missing on passenger - looks like it's been removed as the holes are there for the footwell light and it's the original glovebox (old, right placard sticker). I reckon my old HX Sandman van had the footwell lights. A couple of HX prems I owned had footwell lights, I can't remember whether my old HJ prem had them, or if a HJ Sandman van I had 12-15 years ago (now Randee in WA) had them either?

I bought my HZ Sandman ute brand new, built 12/78. It was.."Not"..fitted with footwell light's. Somewhere amongst all the "well documented GMH literature", there has been a "balls up."

The Sandman I bought off the showroom floor, was definitely a Sandman. I still have all of the documentation to back this up. It is long gone now, it was sacrificed to buy our first house.

    Cheers.

Where were the footwell lights mounted? Pretty sure my HX doesn't have them, or they don't work at least. I've never heard of them so haven't looked for them.

I had my old LX hatch (my first "big" Torana) for 6 months before I found out you could turn the interior light on via the head light switch lol. Previous Torana was an LJ which had the switch on the light.
