Engine number / date codes

Hey guys, is there somewhere on here that will give me the engine numbers and date codes specific to each model? I've had a look around but can't find anything yet. I know my van didn't have the original motor when I got it, so I'm on the hunt for something close to put back in. Maybe I can find the original one?? Stranger things have happened I guess.

There was no specific date codes or numbers used for each model in a series, except Statesman which got a 11 prefix before the engine number for HQ-HZ (ie 11QL, 11QR etc). Engine numbers are all in the same sequence for HQ-late HZ except for Chevs in HQ which are 4 x different sequences for the 4 x different assembly plants. The sequence reset late 1978 when 999999 was reached. Date codes are as per the thread Greg pointed to and sit somewhere in time bewteen a week and 6 months prior to the ADR date of the car, normally 3-6 weeks but many months is possible.
