Question Gears positions, where is Reverse???

I just bought a 1978 HZ Sandman ute, it's not roadworthy (yet) and it's in the garage but I can't get it into reverse...I believe it's a 4 speed but I can't find reverse, can someone help me please? Thanks

All depends on the gearbox, but commonly Right... then Down.

Being a ute with a 4 speed shifter that might be a bit uncomfortable.

depends what box is in it..standard 4 speed is as wb ute said..celica or supra 5 speed is what blocker said..could have a top loader box which would be left and down..chances are its got an aus 4 with a rooted shifter which if it is good luck finding reverse without a screwdriver..

thinking about your reverse gear problem after i posted above...there is also the possibility that the ute has a 3 speed gearbox with a 4 speed extension housing with aus shifter or aftermarket shift...reverse then would be where first is or where fourth is..depending on how its set up at the linkages..
