One for the Sandman mega buffs!

Hi guys just want to know whether or not to get my hopes up on this one... read on

Today i spottoed a lime green HJ Van and followed until he pulled over

Old guy has had it from day dot in 1975. Had all the GTS gear - dash, black buckets, floor shift with centre console, blackouts, guards, rally wheels, rear hood liner had been pulled down to make way for his 'sky light' (made my guts churn when i saw that bit of butcher work!) has original paint with no decals BUT here it comes....... he said its definitely not a Sandman! He also said the original donk was a 173 (now a 202).
I caught a glimpse one of the tags and its an M70.

So is he Sandman naive or is he driving a FULLY optioned 6cyl GTS van?

Not enough info Vobmil, was it a Kingswood van? Can you get more plate info?

No such thing as HJ Kingswood van. HJ van with headlining is most likely a Sanmdan. Standard engine for early HJ Sandman van was a 173. I'd be 99% sure it is.

Shame about the sky light! I guess owners do what they need to do, and don't worry about it.

Byron this van was a kingswood, and deffo HJ, but maybe it just had kingswood badges, it certainly didn't have a GTS dash, but I think it had a hoodlining right through....it had a 202 three on the tree, until the motor was changed to a 308 4spd out of a wreck of a HX sandman...

That looks nice - just the old retro look of the photo is nice.

I don't know when the 8WN70 plate came in to existence, Byron do you know?
    Definitely not before middle 1976.

HX. No such thing as a HJ Kingswood van. Full length headlining was only available in HJ as part of the comfort package which was headlining and carpet. This was standard with HJ Sandman. I'd have to check further but i'm pretty certain it was not available outside of Sandman unless some sort of special order.

that was a HJ byron, it was built in 1975, was owned by ex BF, the one I had to take out the mattress before was allowed to the drive in hehe....but maybe it wasn't a kingswood...I am actually looking out for that van in Forbes, the last owner I knew of was a shearer, and he didnt' know who had it after him....
