How to restore your dash air vents

The airvents in HX and HZ sandmans are dirty, faded and the foam is usually degraded and falling apart allowing cold air to flow through them on a cold night even when they are closed.....

So lets fix them and clean them up while we are at it.

First thing is to get the swivel vent out of the outer housing. Push the swivel tabs in and the centre should pop out.

Once you have the centre vent housing out of the outer housing you need to seperate the two pieces. These are glued together at the top corners and with a little prising with a screwdriver (gently.... don't get impatient) you can get the two halves apart.

Most I have done haven't been too hard to get apart.

Lift the vents out as one piece, the bar on the bottom is fixed to the vents so they all open and close together.... you don't want to break it....

Now you have easy access to all the hard to get areas for a good scrub clean. I give the really bad ones a rub back with 800 wet and dry then polish them up with Novus plastic polish.

You can buy some single side sticky foam tape to replace the old foam after cleaning it off at most good auto shops. Use a little superglue on the top corners to glue the two halves back together once you have fitted the vents back in place. Slip it back into the outer housing and voila.... nice clean vents with no cold air flowing through them when closed on a cold night......

Note: Be very carful not to break the little fingers that hold the vents in position....
