It got to the beaters today. Looks very much like it will be written off. Rail is bent, engine is on an angle, floor is lifted, firewall is seprated from the skirts, RH skirt is wrapped around the brake booster, RH side doors and B billar are flat, RH sill is flat, tub is bent. Looks like engine broke off it's mounts - oil filer sits about 8" from the battery yet it has smacked the battery. Looks like top of LH front Commodore wheel hit the rail and the LH rear Commodore wheel impacted the driver's side back door (big donut on door with the top of the wheel mark level with the window line). I got it powered back up today and driver's window closed, CD played ejected and radio and wipers came on. Bit sad to bring it back to life for a few minutes, only to turn it off permanently! Got the fitted sheepskin cover off, E-tag, floor mats and tow hitch. Unless it is covered by Insurance audio shop will remove the Sat-nav DVD system tomorrow and put the original back. I've tried to find one in Australia but it looks like there are no V6 auto SR5's around, engine and box are Japanese made and all Japanese parts are not exporting at present. There are diesels around in 2011 spec but they really lack in performance (gutless 3.0L diesel cr@p!). May have to accept a D4D manual and sell it immediately to one of those misinformed people out there who think they are good!
That's not good news Byron..... can't you just ask for a cash payout if they can't supply you with the same vehicle?

hey Byron, what is wrong with the D4D's? i was thinking about getting a prado with one of them in it shortly.. do they have problems?

Yes, lack of power and they don't get much better economy than the V6, probably about the difference in price between ULP and diesel! At least the D4D Prado has a good auto box - same box as the V6 Hilux (A750F 5spd auto). The diesel Hilux only has a 4spd auto.
The early D4D's have problems though.
There is no comparison between the Hilux D4D and the Prado D4D. They are only rated about 2kw different but the prado has way more go than the Hilux. Having said that, I have never found the Pilux under powered, just a very boring ute to drive.
The Prado is a way heavier car as well. They are both 08 models.
If they do give me a D4D i'd fit a Chip IT boost and fuel controller for $1200. These give about 30-40% torque improvement and 2 or so L/100kM better economy. Problem is though if it is a manual the stupid dual mass flywheels and clutches are only just sufficient for the standard D4D. Add another 150nM of torque and it won't last!
I have heard of clutch trouble in them also. I would never say the hilux was a tough vehicle, they are now a tradies ute that wont get stuck in mud on a building site and go well on the highway. The old Hiluxs had a tough drive line and no power, the new ones have heaps of power and the drive line and body is as weak as.
Those chips make em go like stink from what I have heard, but they use a shed load of fuel as well. Power needs fuel though.
I dont know if you can fit a Prado chip as I assume they must be different. They make power and torque but use the same amount of fuel.
Just stick a injected 350 in it Byron!
I originally bought the V6 auto as it was the easiest to convert to a 6.0L V8 (LS2). To convert a diesel it is too hard and expensive.
After the accident I'd say they are pretty tough in a crash! I would hate to think what would have happened if I was in a small car like a Cruze or Camry.
