    GTS dash repairs part 2

I got in and made myself up a workbench so I can start repairing some of the fascia's I have.......

Took me an hour and a half to build the bench on Saturday morning and the rest of the weekend to do one and a half fascia's....

Work bench all set up with speedo calibrator and magnetizer.....

HX fascia with radio infill from a Kingswood fascia cut from it

    HX light lenses.... for Jason...

infill panel trimmed up and ready for welding in

    rear welding done

a previous repair with epoxy needed to be ground out and properly repaired

slow progress a bit at a time but looking good

    welding the front side

Got to say my welding is getting much better the more I do

Second fascia is a HJ one and I needed to cut bits from Kingswood fascia's and weld them together to make a big enough infill piece

Panel welded in for non radio fascia as per HJ Sandman

There are 10 holes all together in this fascia that need to be filled in to repair it

These take a hell of a lot of work to repair and are very time consuming, I hope they are worth the effort.

I would like to ask you guys out there what you think a restored HJ/HX fascia would worth to you. These will be either black or the correct Portland Grey depending on model and will have the silver outline applied. Most have missing light lenses so until Jason gets his finger out and produces repro's I can't do much about them.....

Repro HZ ones are $200 so I doubt I will bother restoring too many original HZ ones...

For you Jennie.... not a problem.

How about some pics of the dash now it's all installed......

I'll have your speedo all ready for you when you come down as well... sorry it's taken a while but I wasn't expecting to be uprooted and moving across two States....

I will second Jennies comment as to the quality of your work Absinth! After looking at the dash you repaired in their yellow van I was amazed.

They are worth more than any repro dash facia in my opinion.

I would say double a repro one. Rares does not do the HJ, HX ones anyway so they are next to impossible to get in good nick.

Pop them on ebay one at a time and let people know they have been restored and I reckon the price will be very good.

I would rather have a retored original than a repro one anyday.

    Absinth,
I would think at least $300 maybe $400 for a non HZ. Where else are you going to get a nice one. As HZSandman said stick a few on ebay and test the market.
Most of my HZ was made in Australia and I'm sure none of it was made in China.
I am trying really hard to keep it that way!

Having said that, can you do my HZ one? If not I would be really keen to know a little more about plastic welding and your finishing techniques. Keep the great pics coming.

I don't find plastic welding that hard but I am also naturally good with my hands and have picked up a lot of skills from 30yrs in the Building industry. I already had a plastic welder as I did quite a bit of vinyl floor welding many years ago, a good welder is $700. I had to buy a pack of ABS plastic welding rods at $80 and already had sanding blocks, clamps, dremel tool and attachments etc.

If you needed to buy all the tools to restore your fascia it really wouldn't be worth it if you were only doing one or two.

I am happy to restore your fascia for you but need to see a pic of it to see how hard it will be and how far you want to go with it.

As said, they do take a lot of time to restore properly..... Jennie and Rodney can attest to how much work is involved as Rodney helped with the two I did for them.
