He anticipates at this stage with very little forward research, that a blitz Ford, side valve, V8 is the easiest motor to bolt up to the Fergie belhousing. Rodney has not researched this project as much as the van,:Chin: but he has seen one also with a holden 253 of which we have a block, and lots of bits.....he is not allowed to start this until Red van is finished though, the cheque book is closed until then

How would you get a V8 to work in one? The block wouldn't be strong enough to take the forces from the front axle. The engine forms an integral part of the tractor's chassis. You'd probably want a big truck diesel or an old Nissan G60/P40 block or something like that, even they'd be too weak probably.
good old grey fergy, i nearly bought one last week, i don't need one but i just want one, a couple of my mates have them but they have bigger blocks to mow than me.. a good ride on is all i need.. but i want a tractor !!!!! and these are a bit collectable..

I've seen a Grey Fergie fitted with a side valve V8 here in Vic. Very neat install. Apparently David Brown did one of these conversions and gave it to Henry Ford as a present.
you actually make or buy a chassis piece up each side of the sump, the 253 I saw just had steel runners from the bellhousing bolted to the engine mount positon and run up to support the axle, I think from America you can buy an adaptor pump to suit the ford Blitz motor which will be a stuctural chassis component. Yes, that makes sense!
Jennie and Rodney,
Are you interested in selling some engine bits? I know I need a few push rods but will be happy to grab a few other spares from it if you don't need them.
Wow, V8 in one of these babies would be a bit scary trying to pull it up.
