Another welcome to Buickzz. A very attarctive and desirable sandman there. If you still have it you may well be the longest sandman owner in the world!! A great claim to fame.

Thanks Mauser, That photo was taken in the summer of 1974/75. I kept the van for a number of years and like all vanners in those days modified it too much. I regret it now and tried to locate and buy it back a few years ago. I could only find the motor and thus suspect it is no more.
I have tried to attach a poster of the rebuild process for my new 1974 (same month build as my original ) Sandman. I hope you like it (if this works).poster outside 2.jpg
When I originally found that van body it was the best van body I had ever found. It was that van that got me researching Sandmans originally.
haha get out the angle grinder and knock some windows in that and it'll be close....
Wow what an unreal looking van. Did you use the origional engine... that would be cool. :-)

See the photo of the shell in the top left corner? That is taken at my mate's place when it was bought back from where it was found (in Gilgai NSW). It was just a shell and chassis, nothing more. But the best rust free HQ you'll ever see. It was stripped of all its Sandman gear and put into a 1-tonner many years before. It was the very first Sandman recorded in the database! Because it was a Pagewood van in white it was almost impossible for me to prove it was a Sandman given the data available at the time, and hence started my research. How it is now is a credit to its current owner.
Here is one question I have. Buickzz do you have a photo of your origional grill.
The poster of the Van I have in my avitar was recently reproduced in high-res A3 size in a magazine. It has a fully black grill. I have asked here before and Ozbox has indicated the HQ Sandman was a GTS grill with silver on the surrounds and the centre bar with the blue badge.
like this sucker...

..or the HQ GTS add like OZBox showed me.

interestingly but the HQ SS seems to have the fully blacked out grill.

Just wondering .... are their grill part numbers different? ... or did the hick QLDers just grab the spray gun and give it a lick..haha
Plant differences maybe? I'm sure the teetotaler dudes in Adelaide would of gone by the book.

ps Can we have some more photos of your restored van... it's very cool.

Yes the Sandman did use the SS grill, they are listed with the same part number in the later parts books.
Cheers Paul.
