Howdy Team, long time no post.
Sadly the old girl went off the road for a few years due to a number of reasons. However, I did save my pennies and can happily report that the engine will be coming out this weekend, what a momentous occasion.
The plan is to have it all rebuilt and replaced to look original, apart from 2 things. 1 - A 4 barrell carb for better performance, ill keep the old one for preservation and because it is the original. 2- Extractors, ill keep the old manifold and put a shiny new set on.
Once that is all done Ill do a little tidy up of the wiring and engine bay and whip the gearbox out for a full rebuild as well. Ive noticed the steering is pretty sloppy so that will have to be fixed, plus I am sure theres a few other things that will need a tidy as well.
Can anyone offer any advice on things they have learnt or mistakes they have made? Im happy to listen to all opinions and strategies, I figure there's a load of people here who have done this before so its best if I ask questions first.
Thanks in advance for all your help.
Cheers
Hey Will. Good to hear from you again. Really depends on what is wrong with engine and trans now and what you are after, stock or modified. 253 with 4 barrel is nice. These days I would do hardened valve seats in head to run umleaded (without having to worry about additive). I would also suggest working out what you want compression wise. In my 308s I have aimed for 10. 5 comp with the knowledge that I'll need 98 fuel, but performance is good from an externally looking stock set up
Team, this is now being rebuilt. Just read through all my 'excited' posting from years back.. ha what a nice thread to have.
Anyway, ill post pics in a few months of the resto.
