Can a HZ Auto steering column be put in a HQ ?

With some modifications it will fit. Basically change the plastic bit at the bottom to suit the HZ dash. The HQ blinker mech will fit the HZ, or just use the HZ one. You'll have to do a bit of wiring to make the combination switch operate the HQ wipers and high beam, but it is a pretty simple task. What you have to do is cut a socket out of a HX or HZ harness that the combination switch plugs into. Make sure you cut enough wiring with it to use in the HQ. Then just put spade connectors on the ends of the wires and plug into the HQ harness plugs for wiper/washer and high beam.
Then be very sneaky and use the high beam switch on the floor plus the wiper switch as kill switches.
