generally trimmers wrap them in leather and this is why 5 ml wheels are expensive with good grain...there is still plenty of 3ml wheels out there with good grain and as byron has stated he has seen the prototype of the updated rares wheel but they are 3 ml also
i do know of someone who was looking into reskinning the originals so do not discard the wheel yet..:knockout:

    Good to know thank you.

I don't need it done now, but I'm sure there are a number of 5mm wheels out there that would like to be redone.

Smooth wheels are normal. If you had the thing from new it would be smooth as a babys bum anyway. Cant see the issue. Just my worthless opinion though

CAV, when you read this maybe there is a market for RECONDITIONING of pre ADR25A sports wheels. Basically get the mob that is building you new wheels to use the earlier wheels as exchange? That way you are rebuilding existing stuff and you aren't selling new stuff so any legal issues avoided. If the repro 3mm wheels are say $350 each, i'm sure anyone here would pay the same to get their old worn out or even broken 5mm wheel made as new? I've got a few in the shed including broken examples. I'm sure Greg has some too.
