I have my car's A/C on year round in Newcastle area. Only time I turn it off is when the outside air gets below 17deg as the A/C then starts blowing hot air and I can't stand hot air blowing on me!

I use my air con all year as well, it's the best for keeping the window's de misted as well.
"Proud To Be An Old Fart".
Another A/C all year round here too....
Not only is it best for demisting, and keeping your cool, it's also the best thing you can do for the system - running it keeps the seals lubricated, and reduces the chance of a leak developing.
I've had 2x VS commodores go more than 10 years without needing any A/C work. One got a minor top-up when it was 11, and that's it - still running perfect. Yet the neighbour's one failed after just 2 years, and they are constantly getting it regassed every summer. The difference? They don't run theirs unless it's a stinking hot day.
Hey Byron I have a complete air con unit i have been putting aside for a while to go into the sandman, as it has half of one of those crappy after market under dash 'cut off half yr glove box compartment' units.... I noticed that you recommend using a HZ unit for a HZ etc...
Thought I might try get it in soon so maybe might have it done by summer.....
Thing is I got this unit ages ago and I cant remember what its from. Just wondering if theres a way i can tell what model's air con I have? I can post pics if that helps... Cheers.
Never done it. Like Absinth says... Wind the window down. It'd be nice to have A/C on those killer days, but half the fun is watching the fuel gauge go down and the temp gauge go up...
In saying that, I did grab an original under dash unit from an early HQ and am selling it if anyone is interested? Just the unit from in the car, nothing from under the bonnet as it was all 6 and I have an 8.
It took me 4 hours to pull an integrated system out... I reckon it would take a week to put one in.
Windows down here :knockout:
Howdy air con experts.
Here are some pics of the air con in my sandy. Its hard to get good photos but you should be able to get the idea.
Just wondering what anybody thinks of these?? Its already there but appears to have the engine bay parts missing. Is it worth trying to get going? I also have a full factory set-up but restoring this POS might be easier...
Can anybody tell me what Im missing from the engine bay? Cheers.
This is under the dash and those 2 hoses go through the firewall into the engine bay. (to nowhere...ha)
Half of the glove box space is blocked off. But that doesnt really matter all that much.
In the engine bay theres two hoses that just go nowhere... Just spaghettied around my gas mixer. Do they just go to the normal compressor setup?
