EF Falcon Problems

Hey Guys, so im currently driving this old girl

Which has just clocked over 406,000km and it's starting to get a bit of a noise in the engine when im accelerating or driving at a decent speed... I thought at the start it was sticky tappets but it now is getting worse and is the noise can either be quiet or pretty audible as you drive.. Any idea what it could be.. i thought it might be a whole in the exhaust system but its coming from the engine.. and on loud enough 'pops' i can feel it in the pedals.. Any ideas

Could be loose manifold or warn out cam shaft. Have no idea about fords, bit too far on the dark side for me :Pimp:

yeah i was thinking it might be the cam shaft.. The manifolds dont seem to be loose but ill take a closer look.. Cheers for the info.. Im trying to hear the noise atm but its neally impossible to hear the problem while the car is in park and idling or even if i give it a bit... it seems to happen only when im driving which is a pain.. Im going to take it down the mechanics coz i dont have time to pull the engine apart and dont have the knowledge either.. But i have a spare Ef for parts i can pull apart... so ill get them to ring me with their opinion...

they run a timing chain and guides which is normally replaced on hi output motors

could also be a problem i suppose with a worn out motor too

hey mate, i have an ef wagon as a daily too.. mine is an factory XR6 one... my engine is good but i am having heaps of trouble with the bloody power steering leaking and rooting the alternator... think i got it sorted now though.. but as for your engine with that many k's on it just go and grab another one from the wreckers for a few hundred bucks and replace it... thats all i did with another EF i had..

for a few hundred dollars in and around sydney you will buy a complete ef with 6 months rego..

I wouldn't waste time or money getting the engine pulled apart. Any cars like that just replace the engine, people practically give them away. Make sure it is the engine first though. Does it make the noise when it's in gear and you rev it with the brakes on? If it's only when moving it might be transmission related instead.

Engine swaps are easy. Get a couple of mates, a slab of beer and if you really need it , a workshop manual.

took it to the mechanics they said what i thought they would say. they couldnt hear the noise and i havent heard it while its in park.. which means yes it could be the transmission hahaa.. i've got a spare motor so i can pretty much swap it over.. But the spare is a spare i think due to a gas orientated problem so i gotta see if the engine is still fine... I guess i'll wait till it comes back.. if it is the tranny i can get the spare as well.. But hell id much rather be done with it and drive decent car... but hey.. its the daily driver so yeah
