    Tyre and rim help required

Afetr some advice on which tyres to fit to some new rims I bought.

I currently have standard 6X14 inch GTS rims fitted but have bought some 2 7X14 for the front and 2 8X14 GTS rims for the rear.

I now have 8 good tyres to choose between which are:
2 x 215/65 currently on the 6 inch rims front
    2 x 225/65 currently on the 7 inch rims
2 x 235/60 currently on the 6 inch rims rear
    2 x 245/50 currently on the 8 inch rims

Which tyres should I go with?

I am a bit worried the 245/50 will look odd on the back as they are lower profile and may make the back end look like it is sagging or bring the front up to high.

Here is a good tool to help you decide...

    http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

Says if you go the 215/65 front and the 235/60 on the rear the rear will have a higher side wall of about 1mm.

    Cheers, Chris

Edit: No other combination works. Is a 215 tyre to small for 7" ? I don't know.

When I first bought by ute in the late 80's, it was running 225/65's on the front and 245/60's (I think) on the rear. The 245's really filled the back guards nicely. I have run 225's all round ever since, mainly so I can rotate the tyres periodically - all of these have been on 8" rims. Having said that, my 245's were a higher profile ...

So to answer your question, I think the 225/245 tyre combo would look great, but as you have so many good tyres, why don't you see what looks best to you?

In response to Chris' thread, the 215's should be fine on a 7" rim.

Cheers, Nige. (PS: Let me know if you decide to sell your 6x14" rims!)

    Also, I need 1 x 235/60 14 Eager.
Will also take 2 if available so I will have a matching spare if any one can help out.

    I was thinking:

the 2 x 225/65 currently on the 7 inch rims - stick these rims + tyres on the front to replace the 6 inch rims and 215/65s

the 2 x 235/60 currently on the 6 inch rims rear - swap these tyres to the 8 inch rims and pop them on the rear. Will the 235/60 fit on an 8 inch rim?

Yeah for sure but they must have been a squeeze onto the 6" rims! I run 235/60 on 8" hotwires on the back. Beware they are great at wheel spinning in the wet but on a van maybe better!

They look ok. This is my 8" with 235/60 eagers front and rear. 245's would look better.

the 245s do look good (have not tried them on the van) but the low profile worries me a bit. i would rather have the van looking higher at the back than the front.

    Decisions, decisions???

I lowered the back of my ute and had over-rider springs put in. Looked brilliant with the 245s ...
