There is always the other end of the argument.....

What happens when you find a HQ XX7 Kingswood ute that has been used as a builders ute and has a few dents and moderate rust????

At least we are not in the position XY/XW people are who start from a bare shell in a paddock and buy it "one piece at a time".

You buy it and fix it, or find a good shell for it if rust is too bad, unless it is an Elizabeth or Pagewood with BODY number, then you fix it. Or you wreck it out to keep other Sandmans alive! In Nicky's case he doesn't want a Sandman, just a van.

Some of us are Mauser, through our own choice though

This is my van when i 're-found' it

This is it this month, would anyone buy it if they found it in someones backyard like that, the reason i did was because i owned it back about '87 and thought it was dead, (close to)

It's good to get a guide on what people think is reasonable for bodywork and paint bacuse i think as many vans should be rescued as possible, it's only going to get harder and more expensive from here.

So thinking save 5k for the car itself.. Get something straight and rust free.. Do the magnet trick and take someone with some knowledge to go look at it. Secondly bare metal the car myself.. (using chemicals and sanding????) cant really sandblast round here.. That will save a lil bit of money on the Respray and then another 5k for the paint job and rust repair? i have no real idea on that last part

5k for a WB van would want to be a pretty good van.....

A few dents aren't really expensive to repair.... rust is if you can't do it yourself. If the paint is original and in fair condition like this one in the link, you can just rub it back with wet and dry, repair the few dents and then respray it. You don't have to take a car back to bare metal for a respray.

A car like this would be perfect for you... no rust and a good runner..... $2500 + $800 to transport it get you a pretty good van for $3300. $5000 should get the dents repaired and a "reasonable" rub back and respray at a panel shop.
