    efi 304 into HQ-HZ

has anyone got a car with this conversion done? i am going to put my 304 into my HJ... i have read on a number of other sites that some models have a bcm unit and your ecu has to be "tricked" into thinking it is still there... how do you know if you have an ecu that needs that mod done.. my motor is out of a VP calais which apparently had a bcm unit... my ecu has an ASBX 9285 memcal(standard 165kw vn tune) and has a service number of 01227808.. do i need this mod done?

    thanks...

VN and VP don't have a BCM, it is ECU dependant. You should be right. Only hassle will be the dizzy plug between some VP and a VN harness. I'll send you a link that will help you. PM me back so I have your email address.

I done it back many years ago in my HZ. Back when a VS 5.0L engine was worth about 5k!! I used VN computer and VS engine. Byron I believe is a wizz on the conversion but if you have any other Q's let me know.

If a man could get some good seasons for a change I think that motor would be mine.

I find myself weighting up the option of a efi conversion for my HZ as it does not have the original motor (253) and I am putting a 308 in it either way, is the option of using a blue/black or red block and sourcing the top end components viable or are you better trying to source a complete unit like a crate motor or buying a cheap vn ss etc , I would also be looking to bolt up a T5 box not sure about rear end disc brakes etc. I have read on other sites how you can buy complete looms etc for this conversion from speed shops.

I wonder what the $$ value would be on a red motor with turbo bolt pattern, that has had the bottom end rebuilt and balanced, new double row timing chain, new lifters and E.F.I. cam (mild), new water pump, 2nd hand sump & pick up??????????

Its a very easy conversion, you have the right ecu and chip combination to make it cheap and easy. Just to get a hold of a wiring loom. vn/vp or vr/vs manual.
A vr/vs auto loom can be modified if you get VERY desperate but its a lot of work.
