Byron could probably answer better than me as he has Sandman broadcast sheets which list the tyres used. Pretty sure HQ used Rayon crossply, HJ and HX would have been crossply and HZ radials.

Agro, I think you'll find HQ was the last of the red walls... maybe early HJ.. not HX or HZ.
4/75 HJ XX7 Sandman Panelvan ... Persian Sand currently restoring
7/76 HX Monaro 4dr 308 4sp... Absinth Yellow and rusty as hell.. SOLD
3/77 HX Sandman Panelvan ... Absinth Yellow and rusty as hell .. SOLD

Which series, which model, what engine and XX7 or XU3? There are probably 20 different tyres.

Agro, try John Cain. Never heard of 255/50/15 before though. He'll probably have 245/50/15 and maybe 275/60/15.

HZ has 3 x different tyres. The one Robbo mentioned is option QEU (the XX7 tyre). XU3 used QCP which had 2 x different specs. Post 6/9/77 they were FR78S14 4 P/R steel belted tubeless radials, and before that I have yet to find the right paperwork, all I know is the spec changed. Possibly the early examples used non steel belted radials?

a few years ago I picked up a nos rallyII rim and tyre from a old holden dealer in QLD... the dealer told he he had it because a sandman was delivered new with the spare missing... the dealer ordered a replacement but the sandman owner never returned to pick it up... the tyre is a Michelin 185SRZ14ZX Radial..

as the tyre isnt off my HQ i would be happy to see it sit in a sandman where it belongs

i will post a photo tomorrow

    cheers Al

I don't recall ever seeing that listed. I'll look later. It might be off a 6cyl Sandman?
