    HJ info discussions

windscreen moulds are chrome, not silver (although thats what your probably meant)
not all had the square mirror - have a close look at the HJ in jamacian lime with the hippy guita player brochure, they are the adjustable HJ mirrors. - very uncommon.

i an not convinced on the silver facia for all HJ sandmans or body coloured tailight surrounds.

i hope this brings about further discussion and generates knowledge like a good forum should.
    adam.

Do you mean this one Adam? It sure looks like a standard HJ mirror to me.

HJ tail light surrounds were painted body colour except on the Kingswood utes which had chrome surrounds.

Yes, it appears early HJ Sandmans had silver fascia and later 76 models had a black fascia.

the std mirror is attached to the mirror bracket on the door side.
this mirror shown, STD on premier, joins the chrome mirror bracket in the middle.

look closely at this one again...

there is a third style of mirror which is early HJ and HQ which is not either of these 2 shown either.

i have a door at home with one on it.....somewhere!!!!

I am always prepared to be corrected, thanks for pointing out the silver/chrome wording I have fixed that.

adam can you please post a photo of the door mirror you have, it would be a good reference, at this stage I'll leave the mirror reference knowing that when people read it they will go for the default HJ chrome mirror and not an HX black one or a body coloured HZ type.

My HJ had the original fascia (as marked by the production date on the back) which was black, but when removing it I found evidence of the silver in a couple of the corners that was not removed.

I did some digging and there are three styles of HJ mirror.

Standard style.......... drivers side on all models except Statesman, optional passenger side on Holden and Kingswood, standard on passenger side GTS, Sandman, Premier and Statesman

One tonner only.......driver and passenger side

Centre mounted as per the green Sandman........ Driver side only cable remote mirror...... optional all models except Statesman...... Standard on Statesman

    Thanks mate.
Correct me if I am wrong we are looking at two types for the Sandman?

    1. Offset mounted (most common).
    2. Centre mounted (which has cable remote control on driver side only).

    Is that right?

Andrew, the ones you posted a picture of in the lost HJ mirror thread were offset mounting but they are one tonner mirrors. The standard HJ offset mount mirrors are standard on HJ Sandman... the centre mounted drivers side mirror as on the green Sandman in the brochure is an optional extra.

You will know if you had the cable remote mirror optioned on your Sandman as there will be 3/4 inch hole in the door where the mirror mounts and also a 3/4 inch hole in your door trim above the window winder with corresponding hole in the door inner panel. Very few if any Sandmans would have had these factory fitted.
