i think the 76 spec or 8/75 onwards HJ's had a black fascia,

and the early ones had silver??

Interesting discussion on the later black fascias on HJ Sandmans. I wondered why the part number was revised for type 4 dash on commercials. Maybe they decided they wanted to separate the HOLDEN/Belmont/Kingswood from GTS and Premier/LS. I'd say the woodgrain type 4 dash appeared at the same time as the black did on the M & N models. There was a trim revamp around 8/75 so that would be a close approximation.

Yes, all 8wm HQ and HJ Sandman had painted tail light surrounds in the same colour as the body, if you have a HQ or HJ Kingswood Sandman ute then they are chrome.

As some know I have been slowing pulling apart my HJ van, and as the rust settles I sometimes manage to get some photos.

Here are the seat backings that were covered in black vinyl (not factory). I'll be sanding thee back a little and painting them to original.
You can see in all shots, but more noticable in #1 & 2 the internal wire support marks that have rubbed onto the wood.

    HJ or HQ

OK, I know it's not a Sandman, but hopefully there are enough ID experts on this site to help ... any way of telling whether the van in the now-ended eBay item 310237427924 is an HQ or HJ? The advert appeared in February 1976, so that's no clue. The eBay listing said it was HJ or HX, but the advert appeared before the HX. (Sorry, I can't figure out how to attach the actual pic here.)

I'd say it's a HJ, the side mirrors look to be the chrome type for HJ not the HX which were black.
