    HQ Sandman - Consoles

There seems to be a lot of HQ Sandman utes and Pvans with the later HQ large opening consoles.

    1. The red ute in this forum. http://www.mysandman.com.au/forums/showthread.php?t=44
    2. My van came with one.
    3. this ute - http://www.shannons.com.au/auctions/...ET897LZ9B71E96
    4. Red van - http://www.mysandman.com.au/forums/s...p?t=694&page=2

    just to name a few...

This has been discussed on fastlane in the following threads

    http://www.fastlane.com.au/forums/to...rms=hq,console

    http://www.fastlane.com.au/forums/to...&TOPIC_ID=1372

I realise the small holes at the end of the solid consoles are for the floppy seat belts (ie no inertia on '74 commercials) but there seems a lot of pictures of HQ Sandmans with the later one's.

Could Holden of put these in some HQ Sandmans???

The sales mockup picture could be wrong at the end of the model. Sandman's would off been the last center consoles with out inertia belts. I assume the statesman, prem, kingswood, gts4 all had inertia by then. That is all they may of had to use.

If you look again at the red van you will see it has inertia reel seat belts fitted so the large opening console is correct. These were an option on Sandman and the Kingswood armrests were standard fitment on Belmont Sandman.

I doubt very much you could option inertia reels on HQ Sandman as you certainly couldn't on HJ-HZ. 1974 HJ commercials were fixed seatbelts (no optional inertia reels), 1975 they were standard as inertia reels.

Yeah... The kingswood armreast were fitted to all HQ Belmont Sandmans.

I thought the ones you see were just an improvement made by owners throughout its life...

    Anyone own one from new???

HQ commercials don't even have the holes in the body for intertia reels. 1974 plated HJ have them but they are filled with grey body putty.

    Thanks Byron,

I'm sure you are right on the inertia seatbelts. I just dont have any pictures of a HQ Belmont Sandman Panelvan interier to work from. They all seem to be different in configurations. The utes are mostly Kingswood based so not much of a reference.

Armrests on a Belmont van are a new one to me.

Do you have any photo's of an interier on a complete one?
Does the tailgate have a belmont badge as well as the V8 one?

    haha I guess I have a few questions... :-)

Just for info, although my ute is a Kingswood it has the same console (as far as I can tell from the pic's anyway) as the red Belmont based Sandman ute in this forum i.e.

    http://www.mysandman.com.au/forums/showthread.php?t=44

In terms of tailgate badges mine had the Kingswood and V8 badge just as this has the Belmont badge. Same with the badges on the front guards...

    Thanks AN5590,

My van has a HZ gts badge where the Belmont should be... need to get another one of those Belmont ones.

Byron, another HQ with the '74 inertia console... but not the seatbelts. They do flip in the back of it.

Armrests would appear to be not standard on HQ Belmont Sandman. I have a production broadcast sheet here for a HQ Belmont XX7 van that has a - in box 32 (front door armrests), which means whatever was standard was fitted for the model (V8 Belmont van). Same thing is in the exhaust box. All the other Sandman series (HJ-HZ) list D14 as part of the XX7/XU3 package except HQ.

As far as I am aware all HQ Sandmans got their luxury level badges (Belmont or Kingswood), and also the engine badge for the model.

There is no mention about anything special about consoles. So either they've been changed out or there was a running change during HQ, and as Sandman is only at the end of HQ maybe that explains it.

Thanks mate. My van has never had armrests and they look like origional door trims to me.

There were people on Fastlane argueing about HQ Sandmans having the later console. I guess unless a photo of one shows up from a new one we will never know. :-)

Maybe Ill run into an old surfee who had one from new...

Another curly one that has surfaced on a board was that HQ Sandmans all had a black steering columes to go with the steering wheel. Mine has the chestnut one to match the interior so I guess Ill say that one isnt right.
