Arthur Haywood Overlanders were an aftermarket modification and not produced off the line from GM.

Both Absinth and HK1837 could probably talk your ear off about these, they would know more than most people I suspect.

probably will do this original as it it reasonably rare combo. i believe that overlanders were in wagon, van, wellbody and 1 tonner. if you go to monaroparts.com there is one shown and he was collecting data on them. i think about 80 were made in haywood factory , i was led to believe these were dealer delivered as overlanders where others that were made using haywood kits were sent out after dealer delivery. someone may correct me on all this.

Utes, one tonners, panelvans, a few wagons, one statesman I believe. HK1837 actually owned a one tonner I believe.
They had more trouble doint the wagons because of the coil springs and no chassis.
Most of the utes and vans were sandmans because they had to have a turbo transmission and a 5 litre motor and it was easier to get this option on the Sandman without ticking heaps of boxes.

Byron did you ever talk to the owners of the Overlander conversions? I spoke to them a while back about the shift pattern plate decals etc. I think I gave him your number.

I remember a mate had a hq prem 20th anniversary in that color in the 80's... very nice when the paint is good.

3 x definite HQ in 1866 (Gunmetal metallic), and 1 x possible. 1 x 170, 1 x 270 253 and a proper one, a 480 L31 M21. The possible is a 12/73 Acacia Ridge 270, L31 M21. If it wasn't an Acacia Build i'd say it was one of the first Sandmans, but being Acacia Ridge, they have been proven to have broken the "no metallic on Belmonts" rule, so i'll never know.

Overlanders - yes I had an original Haywood HZ 1-tonner Overlander, built from a new HZ BO6 (the only way to get a 308 TH400 in a HJ-HZ 1-tonner). All original HX Overlanders were utes, vans and a possible tonner. Any others are vehicles done as secondhand conversions. There were a few HZ wagons, maybe 2 x statesmans and from what Arthur told me 5 x tonners (possibly only 2 or 3 done from new vehicles) . I do have a breakdown of how many Arthur converted, but there were kits he sold as well.

Jason, they did contact me, can't remember the outcome. Will check.

You wouldn't bother trying to build one today (from a HQ-WB tonner). It'd be heaps easier and cheaper to buy a higher kM VY V8 auto 1-tonner and stick it on a GU Patrol chassis.
